The Features & Construction of the Bullseye

Building this boat begins by prepping and spraying the gelcoat into the mold. Fiberglass mat is then hand-laid on top of the gelcoat. The flat area of the deck is reinforced with parabeam, a three-dimensional fiberglass. This core material enhances rigidity without problems of rot with wood, and delamination with core. The hull, floor, and deck are then fiberglassed together, which also creates the two flotation tanks, one under the floor and the other in the bow. Together, these tanks keep the boat afloat when full of water. The lead keel, weighing 750 lbs., is then externally installed with 5 stainless steel keelbolts. Not only is this ballast part of what makes her such a sturdy vessel, but if put aground, the keel absorbs the shock, making her a safe vessel. Combined with the possibility of adding a genoa and spinnaker, the Bulls’ Eye has just the right combination of speed and stability in any wind condition. In the final stages of construction, vinyl rubrail is installed for protection. Teak toerails and coamings are handmade, and installed with screws and bungs for uniform wear. The varnished ash tiller and fiberglass rudder are attached with pintles and gudgeons. The aluminum mast and boom come standard with roller reefing and stainless steel standing rigging with turnbuckles. The self-tacking jib club is varnished spruce, bent to give the working jib its shape on either tack. Any one design that has been in steady construction since the 50's is proof of its success. Boats built then are still competitively racing with boats built today.

The cockpit cover is available in a duck (color: sea green) or Thurston acrylic with your choice of colors. Ideal for leaving the boat on a mooring.

Bronze two-part outboard bracket. Good for two and three hp motors. The extension is removable for easy storage. This is great for fighting a heavy current or when the wind dies.

The cockpit compass is mounted in the well cover for easy removal and can be viewed by skipper and crew. The ½" foam seat cushions make it easy to spend the whole day on the water.
